2021: Reduce Russia's digital competitiveness by 67 points in three years

Russia's digital competitiveness has decreased by 67 points over three years. This is evidenced by the data of the European Center for Digital Competitiveness, which was published in early September 2021.

As part of the study, its authors gave States estimates based on ten indicators, divided into two groups:

  • digital ecosystem. This group of indicators refers to the development of digital business (availability of venture capital, financial costs of starting a business, time costs of starting a business, ease of hiring foreign labor and recruitment of skills of university graduates);
  • digital thinking. This group more characterizes the population of the country (digital skills of the active population, the attitude to risk in entrepreneurship, the diversity of personnel, the number of mobile users and the extent to which companies are ready to use risky and innovative ideas).

Vietnam named leader in digital competitiveness
Digital competitiveness of Russia in three years decreased by 67 points

The leader in the growth of digital competitiveness turned out to be Vietnam - its indicator from 2018 to 2021 increased by 339 points. Next, they are located Egypt China with 258 and 211 points, respectively.

The worst results were recorded in India, where digital competitiveness decreased by 396 points in three years. In the USA, the indicator fell by 72 points, in Germany - by 176, in Japan - by 190.

As for the CIS countries, in Georgia digital competitiveness increased by 153 points, in Armenia - by 47%, in Azerbaijan - by 37%, in Kyrgyzstan - by 22%, in Tajikistan - by 21. In Kazakhstan and Ukraine, there was a decline of 40 and 66 points, respectively.

The report notes that digital progress can be achieved if the right measures are taken. Countries such as Canada and Georgia have shown that increasing the pace of digital transformation can be achieved both in companies and government agencies.[1]
