2021: Announcing the software that turns a tablet into an additional monitor on a Windows computer

On September 8, 2021, Lenovo announced the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro tablet, which received the new Project Unity feature. The latter is used to apply a mobile device as an additional monitor to a Windows computer.

There are some differences between Lenovo's Project Unity and competing synchronization applications. Lenovo's Project Unity works as an app on top of Android, which means that a user can run Android apps on a tablet at the same time as an addition to Windows software on a computer.

The Android tablet still works native; no other solution on the market has this; either it's full screen, or you have the Android tablet itself. Unity is an app that runs on top of Android, so you can use all your Android apps without any interruptions, "a Lenovo spokeswoman said at her event.

The application works with touches and ink, so you can interact with content using your hand or pen. Because some PCs do not support feathers or touches, installing Project Unity can add versatility.

Among other features of the presented tablet, Lenovo highlighted:

  • 12, 6-inch touch-sensitive AMOLED display with a resolution of 2560 × 1600 pixels with an update rate of 120 Hz;
  • Support for Dolby Vision and HDR10 +;
  • 4 powerful surround sound dynamics from JBL with support for Dolbymos technology;
  • High-performance processor from Qualcomm - Snapdragon 870;
  • LPDDR5 RAM up to 8 GB and up to 256 GB of onboard memory;
  • Wi-Fi 6 support and built-in 5G module;
  • A battery with a capacity of 10 thousand mAh, providing up to 17 hours in video viewing mode;
  • The ability to use the tablet as a workstation by installing it on an additional support-case and connecting a complete thin full-size keyboard with a touchpad using a four-pin Pogo Pin connector;
  • Support for the Lenovo Precision Pen 3 stylus with which you can not only make handwritten notes and draw, but also manage a remote tablet.

Project Unity requires an Android 11 tablet. Tab P12 Pro is Lenovo's first Android 11-enabled tablet and the first on Android to work with Project Unity. Tab P12 Pro will go on sale in early October 2021 at a starting price of $610. Applications for Project Unity will be available in the Google Play Store and Microsoft Store.[1]
