2021: Announcement of a Digital Twins Tool in Logistics and Manufacturing

On September 14, 2021, Google announced the release of Supply Chain Twin, a new cloud solution that allows companies to create digital doubles.

Together with Supply Chain Twin, the Supply Chain Pulse module will appear, which can be used with Supply Chain Twin to create signage, analytics, alerts, and collaboration in Google Workspace.

As noted in Google, most companies have no idea about the organization of supply chains, which leads to interruptions in the warehouse of retailers and obsolescence of inventory at manufacturers. In 2020, the cost of only missing goods in stock is estimated at $1.14 trillion. Since 2018, when supply chain failures occurred, they have further demonstrated the need to obtain information about operations to dynamically adjust fleet routes and inventory levels.

With the help of Supply Chain Twin, companies can combine data from different sources, providing the opportunity to exchange information with suppliers and their partners. The solution supports enterprise business systems that contain the location, product, order, and warehouse activities of the organization, as well as data from vendors and partners, such as inventory and physical inventory levels and the shipment status of materials. Supply Chain Twin also uses publicly available sources of contextual data, such as weather, risks, and sustainability.

Disparate and incomplete data limit the ability of companies to explore their supply chains. Supply Chain Twin allows customers to gain a deeper understanding of their operations by helping them optimize supply chain functions from sourcing and planning to distribution and logistics, "said Hans Talbauer, managing director of supply chain and logistics at Google Cloud, in a statement.

Supply Chain Pulse, which was also launched on September 14, 2021, provides real-time visibility, event management, and artificial intelligence-based optimization and modeling. Using it, teams can detail operational metrics using dashboards to help you view the state of the supply chain.[1]
