2021: Implementation of a centralized EMM system

On September 16, 2021, IT company Krok announced that it had developed and implemented a centralized EMM system (Enterprise Mobility Management) for 3,000 devices in Utkonos ONLINE, one of the players in the Russian e-grocery market. The solution is based on Soti Mobicontrol. Now all enterprise mobile devices - data collection terminals, smartphones and PCs - are managed from a single center, which allows you to flexibly configure role models and access rights, quickly deploy network parameters, software and updates, and provide remote technical support. The EMM system is integrated with the retailer's existing IT systems.

Utkonos ONLINE is faced with the task of maintaining rapid growth, while maintaining the quality of service and efficiency of business processes. The main goal of implementing the EMM system was to optimize the work of several categories of users: warehouse employees, delivery services and service departments of the company.

In 2020, the e-grocery market tripled, and the number of customers continues to grow. For more than 15 years, working with companies from the retail segment, we are well aware that quality work on internal business processes related to logistics, storage and delivery speed is extremely important for online players, provided that the business remains manageable. A good solution in the case of Utkonos ONLINE was to set up centralized management of corporate mobile devices, which optimizes and, as a result, speeds up the work of the involved users, "said Dmitry Smirnov, director of business development at IT company KROK in retail.

In e-commerce there are no "stone" stores, and it is warehouses and delivery points that play a key role. Therefore, one of the requirements was the prompt transfer of information to data collection terminals about what happens to goods in the warehouse - when they were brought, where they shipped, how categories of goods move inside with accuracy to the shelf. Also, TSD devices should be integrated as quickly as possible into existing systems, supplying all the necessary information and a set of settings. The second category of devices is tablets and smartphones of delivery employees. IT administrators control the use of a group of devices for their intended purpose using an EMM system. At the same time, secure data exchange between the corporate device and Utkonos ONLINE systems should be provided to record the fact of transfer of the order, receipt of payment, as well as delivery of the necessary settings to the devices, including the formation of a "white list" of permissible applications.

The project was conceived as a Swiss knife, which allows you to solve 99% of the tasks and calls related to mobile equipment within the company. Our initial guideline was to reduce the risks of losing devices, including theft, compliance with information security rules, simplify maintenance and support, and implement promising scenarios for the use of personal equipment, "said Anton Tarabrin, head of IT infrastructure at Utkonos ONLINE. - The subsequent inclusion in the project of colleagues from the operational unit and IS made it possible to implement a solution that is exactly suitable for our tasks.

Another category is personal devices of employees. For this group, the EMM system provides users with easy and secure access to network resources, ensuring the safety of confidential information. In addition to security, the system helps manage remote access to the corporate network. All tools are presented to IT administrators using a single graphics console.

The idea of implementing an EMM system arose during the joint work of the IT and IB departments to find a solution to the problem of theft of data collection terminals at our FTs. Initially, we were hooked on the ability to use software to block at a deep level a device that has left the perimeter of the Company's wi-fi network. In the process of developing EMM capabilities, we were led to the idea that this solution can be applied to personal devices, thereby allowing us to show great loyalty to the Company's employees, save money for the purchase of expensive equipment, as well as ensure information security when implementing BYOD scenarios, "said Nikolai Semashko, head of the information security department of Utkonos ONLINE.

{{quote 'This is not our first project to create mobile device management systems of this scale in retail. Therefore, we were ready for the requirements and tasks that were set for us. The created EMM system will become the powerful base for the subsequent development of corporate mobility the Duck-bill ONLINE, having provided a possibility of safe and effective use of multipurpose and productive terminals of data collection and also other devices on base operating systems Android iOS, Windows and Linux, including personal devices of employees, - notedBonev Igor, the area manager of program infrastructure of the CROC IT company. }}
