2021: Fivetran bought HVR for $700 million
In mid-September 2021, Fivetran bought the developer of the HVR big data replication solution. A deal worth $700 million will allow Fivetran to provide breakthrough database replication performance along with enterprise-level security to enter the market for upgrading operational data analytics related to ERP systems, Oracle databases, etc.
In addition to buying HVR, the company announced the raising of $565 million, as a result of which Fivetran's valuation reached $5.6 billion. The cost increased by more than 5 times, since after the investment round of series C, when the company raised $100 million, the estimate was $1.2 billion. The last round was led by Andreessen Horowitz with the participation of General Catalyst, CEAS Investments, the Russian fund Ilya Sukharev Matrix Partners, ICONIQ Capital, D1 Capital Partners and YC Continuity.
The acquisition of HVR is a major investment for Fivetran, since the amount of the transaction is almost equal to the amount of all funds raised by the company - $730 million (as of September 2021). However, this purchase is expected to give the company an opportunity to quickly expand the market through the purchase of a competitor.
