Biography

2021:6 years in prison for plastic surgery, which caused patients to die

In September 2021, the Meshchansky court of Moscow sentenced Leo Khitrin, the former chief physician, anesthesiologist of the Medlange Moscow plastic surgery clinic, to six years in prison. He was found guilty of committing crimes under paragraph "a," "in" part 2 and part 3 of Art. 238 of the Criminal Code (the provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in negligent serious harm to health, as well as death of a person). 

In addition, the nurse of the same medical institution Larisa Savelyev was sentenced to imprisonment. In a penal colony, she will spend 2 years. It is also prohibited from providing medical services for two years.

As  specified  on the website, of the Investigative Committee Russia Khitrin and Savelyeva are credited with six unsuccessful plastic operations carried out in 2018, during which the patients were seriously harmed. Among them, three  are fatal. According to Roszdravnadzor, the patients died due to infection.

The investigation found out that in fact Medlange did not have the right to perform plastic surgery at all, the institution had a license only for general medical services. That is, according to the documents it was an ordinary private clinic, with therapists and gynecologists.

During the investigation, investigators of the UK conducted a large amount of investigative and procedural actions, interrogated more than 30 people, raided a private clinic and analyzed medical documentation. More than 10 complex forensic examinations were conducted.

According to TASS, at the debate, the prosecutor asked to appoint Khitrin  seven  years in prison, and Savelyev to be imprisoned for five  years. According to the lawyer of the victims Andrei Mishonov, the court recovered compensation for each victim in the amount of 500 thousand rubles, although they asked for 10 million rubles.[1]
