2021: 5th Generation Chipset Release

On September 21, 2021, Nokia announced the release of the 5th generation FP5 chipset for IP routing.

Nokia Introduced 5th Generation Routing Chipset

According to the company, as 5G and Industry 4.0 cloud architectures continue to drive network development, service providers need critical IP networks to be more secure, flexible, and stable. In the face of growing threats from network-level attacks and security breaches, IP networks must ensure proper performance and integrity. They should also be able to adapt to unexpected changes and support the development of services throughout the life of networks. In addition, it is necessary to constantly optimize the energy efficiency of equipment for IP networks in order to minimize the impact on the environment.

Thanks to the FP4 chipset, the company has changed the protection against voluminous DDoS attacks, implementing their detection and prevention of consequences at the router level. The FP5 chipset adds an additional layer of network protection with the introduction of ANYsec - the function of streaming encryption at linear data channel speeds built directly into the chipset. ANYsec provides secure IP services, including MPLS and network segmentation, when required and with the required scaling, without compromising performance and energy efficiency.

Nokia's service router platforms were the first to support 800G and 1.6 Tb/s interfaces with adequate density for network applications, including mobile transport, IP backbone transport, peering, BNG and network service layer. Line boards based on the FP5 chipset will have a throughput of 14.4 TB/s (19.2 TB/s with Nokia intelligent aggregation function). The 7750 Service Router-1 Fixed Configuration Router Series also enables FP5 capabilities in small-scale networks.

processors Nokia's network FP5 reduces by 75% energy consumption in terms of one bit. The FP5 chipset is backward compatible with the FP4 chipset and fully integrates into the latest versions of operating system the Service Router Operating System (SR OS).

As a fully programmable network processor, the FP5 provides the flexibility needed to develop networks as standards and applications change. Its deterministic performance, combined with advanced telemetry, allows operators to expand and maintain IP networks.

We have long collaborated with Nokia - since the moment it released its first chipset. As our network continues to evolve to meet the requirements of our customers, products such as the FP5 Nokia chipset allow us to achieve a balance between the required bandwidth, serviceability and security. Introducing this product into existing platforms will allow us to develop our networks optimally and meet planned and unforeseen needs in rational ways.
