History

2021: China International Marine Containers купила Maersk Container Industry

At the end of September 2021, China International Marine Containers (CIMC) announced that it would acquire the Danish manufacturer of refrigerated containers Maersk Container Industry (MCI) and its entire stake in the Maersk China division for about $1.08 billion.

The sale came as Maersk is conducting a strategic review of its ownership of Maersk Container Industry's refrigerated container division. MCI manufactures refrigerated containers and refrigeration machines for the intermodal freight industry. Refrigerated containers are used in the transport of fruits, vegetables, medicines and other perishable products.

After careful analysis, we have concluded that consolidating activities in one plant will ensure more efficient use of production capacity and simplify the cost structure. This will allow us to better serve our customers and focus on innovations that meet the growing demand for refrigerated container technology, "said Maersk Container Industry CEO Sean Fitzgerald.

The unit benefited from high demand for its containers in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic, when blocking blocked global trade routes and disrupted refrigerated storage flows. According to Maersk's financial report, MCI's earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization in the first quarter of 2021 amounted to $25 million, which is $14 million more than in the same period of 2020.

The transaction will be financed from CIMC's own funds, it will be closed after all agreed terms and conditions have been met and the necessary regulatory approvals have been obtained.[1]
