2021: Platform Launch
At the end of September 2021, Kinomatic launched a virtual reality-based template platform that allows surgeons to develop customized plans for knee and hip arthroplasty.
Surgical planner Kinomatic VR, according to the developers, is the first virtual reality platform specifically designed for orthopedic surgeons. This open platform can work with any implant system and can be adapted for various surgical techniques and surgical approaches. The company's patented VR application allows surgeons to view and manipulate surgical plans with unmatched detail. As of September 2021, the platform supports preoperative modeling in knee and hip arthroplasty. By early October 2021, Kinomatic plans to release simulations of shoulder and spine surgery.
Kinomatic's unique platform enables surgeons to model arthroplasty cases using preferred implants, surgical techniques, and technical specifications. Patients receive high-resolution computed tomography, which is then converted into an accurate 3D model of the patient's joint, after the simulation is completed, the surgeon can determine the exact size and orientation of the implant, which will most accurately recreate the natural anatomy of the joint. Kinomatic gives surgeons the opportunity to model all aspects of the procedure in advance, this new solution will help surgeons recreate the ideal biomechanical alignment of the patient's native joint.
Recent data show that the volume of knee and hip arthroplasty surgeries in the United States is growing as of September 29, 2021, and the average age of patients is steadily declining. As younger and more demanding patients choose arthroplasty, surgeons begin to realize the importance of planning taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient and optimal balancing of the implant. It is known that incorrect orientation of the implant reduces both the durability of the implant and the overall satisfaction of the patient. Based on this, new technologies aimed at optimizing the alignment of the implant are able to significantly increase measurable patient outcomes.
At the end of September 2021, Kinomatic is collaborating with some surgeons and orthopedic clinics throughout the United States to provide comprehensive individual surgical planning.[1]
