2021: Drone announcement for home security surveillance

At the end of September 2021, Amazon announced the sale of the Ring Always Home Cam compact drone, which flies around the house and monitors safety. The cost of the device is $250.

The drone will be able to fly around the house, following a given flight path. You can schedule a route around the house or start the flight manually. In addition, the camera will be able to respond to certain events, for example, the operation of a door/window sensor in the Ring Alarm system. The Always Home Cam drone can be called on request, sent at predetermined viewpoints, for example, to the front door or cooker.

The camera is not designed to monitor several floors, so flights on stairs or down seem to be excluded, as is remote control, which is impossible for reasons of security and confidentiality. The Always Home Cam camera will not be able to record video while it is in the dock, and its loud propellers will let you know about its presence if the user is worried about its access to private spaces at home.

Ring's privacy has been the subject of intense scrutiny and criticism, especially for the way the company shared user information with the police. Despite some recent improvements in the company's policy, the release of a flying unmanned camera complicates already difficult questions about Ring's position on privacy. Internal security cameras have already contributed to serious privacy violations, and the attachment of propellers to one of them and allowing it to fly independently around the house potentially exacerbates existing problems.

The Always Home Cam flying camera is part of the Ring Alarm ecosystem, so users will have to buy other devices of this security system to get full protection at home.[1]
