On October 12, 2021, the Ingka group announced the transfer of 14 large IKEA stores in Russia to solar energy. In the future, it is planned to transfer all Mega shopping centers to renewable sources.

Also, the Russian distribution division IKEA and three shopping centers - Mega Khimki, Mega Warm Stan and Mega White Dacha - connected to the sun's energy.

In addition to electricity from solar power plants, the company provides itself with energy from wind generators, solar panels and bioboilers.

At the same time, IKEA City design studios and stores have not yet switched to renewable sources by October 2021, as they are tied to the energy of the shopping centers in which they are located, the company added.

By mid-October 2021, the Ingka group, which includes Ikea and Mega, owns and manages 547 wind turbines in 15 countries, 10 solar power plants and 935,000 solar panels on the roofs of Ikea stores and warehouses and Ingka Centers shopping centers, which is more than 1.7 gigawatts of total installed renewable energy capacity. This is the equivalent of annual consumption of more than 1 million European households.

Back in 2013, Ingka planned to produce by 2020 as much energy from renewable sources as all its divisions spend. By 2021, Ingka worldwide produces more renewable energy than is required to support its own activities. In the future, the company plans to transfer all its shopping centers to renewable energy consumption.

In April 2021, Ingka Investments became the largest foreign investor in green energy sources after acquiring 49% from three subsidiaries of Solar Systems, which owns eight solar power plants in Russia.[1]
