Project date: 2021/10

In mid-October 2021, it became known about an agreement signed by the Russian Severstal and the American company Hyperloop Transportation Technologies as part of a project to build the first prototype of the Hyperloop transport system.

According to Vedomosti, the contract provides that Severstal will send thick sheets of steel for the construction of the first 5 km of the full-size commercial model Hyperloop. About 5 thousand tons of metal will be required for one kilometer of the transport system. It is assumed that the final location of the construction of the first kilometers of the system will be announced in the near future, according to a publication dated October 14, 2021.

The transport system is a "steaming" magnetic traction capsule. The interconnected capsules move at great speed in a vacuum pipe, which allows you to travel a distance of 1200 km in one hour. The project of such a "train" was proposed by Elon Musk. Since the entrepreneur himself did not plan to engage in the project, Hyperloop Transportation Technologies, founded in 2013, took up the implementation of his concept of a vacuum train.

Experts interviewed by the publication believe that the agreement for the Russian company is more image, it gives Severstal an occasion to talk about the innovation and green priority of the company, because Hyperloop works on electricity.

The contract was concluded for 10 thousand tons, which will bring the Russian company from $5.5 million to $9 million. According to Oksana Lukicheva, an analyst on Open Investments commodity markets, Severstal's earnings may amount to about $9 million, provided the price is fixed, but there is a premium on special grades of steel, which the contract should also take into account.[1]
