2021: Building a data center on campus in Dubai
On October 15, 2021, Schneider Electric announced that it had built a data center in the UAE on the campus of the University of Birmingham in Dubai.
According to the company, the data center, which provides energy savings of up to 15% at peak loads, was built on the technological basis of Schneider Electric together with the system integrator - CDW. The Data Center is energy efficient and has features such as remote management and performance benchmarking based on data from other data centers around the world. The data center will also allow the rapid exchange of information with the university campus in the UK.
The infrastructure of the University of Birmingham in Dubai was developed under a smart campus project, which involves the use of technologies that ensure an adequate level of teaching and learning in various educational programs. Students and teachers will be able to use Wi-Fi 6, a next-generation wireless network that provides continuity of learning and research for students and teachers both on campus in the UAE and in the UK.
Schneider Electric technologies implement both hardware and software and include Easy Rack PDU Metered series power distribution units for remote real-time monitoring of connected load power consumption. Uninterruptible power supplies provide backup power in the event of a sudden power outage, and Easy Rack series racks and accessories optimize data center implementation and maintenance.
Schneider Electric's IT EcoStruxure platform provides a set of tools to optimize data center performance: the owner can increase resource utilization and load uniformity, control and reduce power consumption, eliminate risks associated with bottlenecks and insufficient redundancy. The EcoStruxure IT solution allows you to achieve proper performance and efficiency of the object by taking into account all core resources and assets, maintaining changes and generating visual analytics that are available to all team members.
Our building and data center were created as a "smart campus" using technology for long-term continuity and efficient operation of assets, and providing an appropriate level of teaching and learning in various educational programs. We aim to create a developed learning environment on Dubai campus that will satisfy the needs of both students and university staff. By providing an appropriate level of education, we sought to create a data center that would meet the requirements of the time and bring us closer to the goal of creating a high-tech campus. The performance, efficiency and sustainability of this center will create the basis on which we will develop our own IT systems. noted Professor David Sadler, Rector of the University of Birmingham in Dubai |
