The Oracle corporation announced upgrade in the product Sun Storage 7000 Unified Storage System direction. Innovations which complement the Sun Storage 7000 systems include the built-in function of deduplication of data which can be combined with the built-in function of data compression, support of Fibre Channel standard 4 and 8 of Gbps and multiple pools of storage with the different RAID levels for data protection and also new disks of SAS with a capacity of 1 and 2 TB which allow to double the maximum capacity of a system up to 576 TB.
These opportunities help customers to cut down storage expenses, consolidation and data management at simultaneous improvement of efficiency of use of resources of storage. So, according to the company, deduplication of data can reduce resource requirement of storage, as a rule, by 50-80% (depending on data type), and data compression can render multiplicative effect on economy of the space occupied by the equipment. Unlike the competing products, functions of deduplication and data compression in the systems of the product Sun Storage 7000 System direction work in real time, without requiring the subsequent separate data processing.
Support of multiple pools of storage provides higher level of optimization of storage system for dynamic infrastructures with numerous applications and the user working environments, being the key requirement for solutions based on technology of cloud computing. In turn, support of Fibre Channel standard 4 and 8 of Gbps allows to extend application of the Sun Storage 7000 systems to the fiber optic storage area networks (Storage Area Networks, SAN) based on the Fibre Channel protocol. The fiber optic channel Fibre Channel connecting the unified storage system of Unified Storage System with the server is an optimal solution for a problem of consolidation of environments of "cloud computing" at the enterprise (private cloud) which need to service a number of protocols of applications and also for cost-efficient upgrade of a set of the existing storage/consolidation environments which use the communication Fibre Channel interface.
New SAS disks on 1 TB and 2 TB doubles total capacitance of storage in comparison with the systems of the previous generation, uses faster interfaces for data transmission at speeds up to 6 Gbps and offers higher level of data availability. Unlike other products using file systems with restriction in 16 TB the Sun Storage 7000 systems simplify deployment and systems management of storage, providing access to the maximum 576 TB data as to the single file system, or as to one thousand separate file systems or logic devices.
