We managed not only to learn how to efficiently build graphs and save time. We measured operations in stores and eliminated ineffective processes. The automated system will allow us to increase productivity and become a more attractive company for employees who prefer part-time employment, "said Tatyana Yurkevich, Lenta HR Director.

By the beginning of December 2022, the retailer began to scale the introduction of an automated shift planning system and is going to launch it in hypermarkets.

Lenta is actively digitalizing its activities. Thus, by December 2022, the company is testing a video recognition system that determines the number of people at the cash desks and in self-service areas and notifies the responsible employee of this. The technology allows you to open additional cash lines in a timely manner and avoid queues.[1]

2021: Preparation for testing the automated shift planning system in Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg

On October 28, 2021, Lenta announced preparations for testing an automated shift planning system in supermarkets in Novosibirsk and St. Petersburg.

Some supermarket employees work on a shift schedule, which is made up by the store director once a month. This process is time-consuming and resource-intensive.

The task of the pilot, which is carried out by the Innovation Center, the operating service and the Lenta HR Directorate, is to fully automate planning and distribute shifts among supermarket employees as efficiently as possible. In a special program, the store director will be able to plan working hours based on daily, hourly load and form various options for schedules.

The WorkForce Management personnel schedule forecasting and planning system includes a Shift Exchange module. Thanks to it, store workers can familiarize themselves with the schedule at any time on a mobile phone or using a computer. In addition, automation of the process will allow company employees to apply for additional hours of work. This task is especially relevant for cashiers who often go on shifts in different stores.

Thanks to the shift exchange, Lenta will be able to promptly notify contractors of staff shortages and invite employees to stores.

We are seeing staff shortages in the labour market, which is why the company is particularly challenged to make the most of its store staff, as well as to flexibly attract additional people during peak times. An automated system will allow us to more accurately plan work schedules and tasks, taking into account the preferences and restrictions of individual employees on the schedule. Thus, we can be more flexible for our own employees when planning their work. The system will also allow us to simplify the processes of working with people who prefer part-time employment. This will enhance our ability to attract additional employees,}}

The first automated schedules will appear in November 2021 in supermarkets in Novosibirsk, in February the project starts in St. Petersburg. Based on the results of the pilot, a decision will be made to scale the decision.
