2021: Kazakh authorities declare "exclusive" access to system
On November 1, 2021, the Ministry of Information and Public Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan announced that it had received from Meta (formerly called Facebook) "direct exclusive access" to the content notification system (CRS), which is internal to the company.
According to the agency, CRS will allow it to quickly report content containing violations of Facebook's global content policy and national legislation of Kazakhstan.
The first step towards long-term cooperation is to provide Kazakhstan with access to CRS, which will help authorized bodies of the government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to more effectively and efficiently combat malicious content, "said Facebook Regional Director for Public Relations George Chen. |
In turn, MIR also notes the level of bilateral cooperation achieved by Meta: on October 28, 2021, company representatives conducted training for specialists of the Ministry on working with CRS. From the beginning of November 2021, the department will already begin work in this system.
On November 2, 2021, Meta denied the statement of the Government of Kazakhstan regarding obtaining exclusive access to the content management system on the Internet.
Firstly, we did not issue a joint statement with the Kazakh government - instead, the government of Kazakhstan issued its own statement based on discussions that we had about the global process of sending government requests to respond to content that violates local legislation, "said Ben McConaughey, director of communications in the Asia-Pacific region Meta Platforms. |
He added that the process of access to the complaint system "is not exclusive to Kazakhstan and is common to governments around the world."
MIR, in turn, insists that they agreed on a joint statement with Facebook.[1]
