2021: Acquisition by CrowdStrike

CrowdStrike announced the acquisition of SecureCircle, a data protection company. This became known on November 1, 2021. The SecureCircle product will CrowdStrike, among other things, ensure data encryption during transfer, use and storage, thereby ensuring the preservation of information both on endpoints (from English endpoints - "endpoints," which include workstations, servers, mobile devices) and during its transfer. The financial terms of the transaction between CrowdStrike and SecureCircle were not disclosed.

An endpoint is the focal point of how data is accessed, used, distributed, and stored. CrowdStrike creates a standard for data protection at the level of endpoints, extending the policy of zero trust to the end device, user identity, and, thanks to this acquisition, to data accessed by users,
said co-founder and executive director of the CrowdStrike George Kurtz.

The staff of the company as of November 2021 is 31 people. In recent years, it has managed to attract about 7 million investments. The co-founders of the company were senior Netgear employees - Jeff Capone, director of technology, and now the former chief software developer Artyom Tsai. Capone and Tsai hold SecureCircle positions as executive and technology directors, respectively.

As noted in the publication CrowdStrike, security specialists experience many problems - these are unintentional and malicious internal threats, resource-intensive management of policies and control; There were also difficulties for staff who had to deal with cumbersome and opaque rules. The pandemic, which forced most of the workers to be transferred to a remote location, further highlighted the shortcomings of traditional data leak prevention (DLP) tools.

Existing tools usually block or encrypt data only when they are sent from the endpoint - and only if a complex set of predefined rules and behavioral parameters are triggered. Attackers know all the weaknesses of DLP systems and constantly improve the means of bypassing this layer of protection.

DLP systems have broken down. We need another model of full-range, uptime data protection that starts to work as soon as the information hits the endpoint,
writes technical director of the company CrowdStrike Michael Sentonas.

The combination of CrowdStrike products and a protective Solution SaaS will SecureCircle provide customers with transparency and control over the receipt, use and distribution of data within the enterprise environment.

The joint offering provides customers with flexible tools to manage user access to data and enforce policies so that customers can detect and respond to threats, whether they appear on the target device, at the user's identity level, or at the data transfer level.

The abundance of threats requires different approaches to data protection. Security tools that protect only endpoints or only data transfer can no longer be called relevant, products are needed that ensure the preservation of information at all stages at once. Combined means of CrowdStrike and SecureCircle will provide such protection to their customers.
