2021: Headset announcement that voices human thoughts

Cognixion announced an investment of $12 million and the release of Cognixion One, a device designed to voice human thoughts. The funds received will go to the production of the product.

Cognixion One uses electroencephalography to detect certain forms of brain activity, which are then used to control the cursor and navigate the full-function interface. The headset uses iPhone as its own "computing brain" and display, and also connects to accessories such as speakers and access devices so that the user can do everything necessary in a single user interface.

At the heart of all this is a new type of non-invasive electrodes and a machine learning system that quickly interprets the signals produced by electrodes built into the headset. Cognixion is working on various tasks related to the launch of the auxiliary device on the market and although the company has conducted several pilot tests, it needs even more finance to justify the need to obtain the permission necessary to cover insurance companies.

Recently, two large topics have been related to clinical and normative work, as well as optimization and efficiency. We have a group of nearly 150 users, clinicians and health professionals involved as an advisory board in all of our development processes, so we are constantly receiving very rich feedback from this group. We have already carried out iterations on hardware many times, but are quickly approaching the final version and, in addition, many of the quick improvements that we are seeing now are focused on the user interface and language system design, "said Cognixion CEO and co-founder Andreas Forsland.

As of November 2021, two new functions are being developed:

  • This is a predictive speech algorithm that will help users quickly make complete sentences and adapt to their specific needs.
  • This is a direct integration with a virtual assistant developed by Amazon - Alexa. The company works with Amazon to expand the capabilities of the headset and integrate it as a real hub of smart devices, and not just a tunnel for ordinary voice commands or requests.

As Primer Movers Lab CEO Amy Kruse noted, Cognixion One is something of science fiction if it no longer existed. He added that it will be a fundamentally life-changing integral mixture of an artificial intelligence software platform with hardware to help people of all ages suffering from speech and motor disorders, including cerebral palsy, brainstem stroke, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and many other diseases.[1]
