2021: Kioxia BG with PCIe 4.0 support

On November 16, 2021, Kioxia Europe announced that its line of solid-state drives (SSD) with the PCIe  4.0 interface was replenished with BG5 series devices. These SSDs are designed to provide an optimal ratio of performance, cost and power, support up to 64 GT/s (used PCIe Gen4 with four lines) and are based on fifth-generation 3D BiCS FLASH memory from Kioxia.

BG5 series SSDs can operate in client mode store with support for virtual multiple LUNs (VMLs) and provide high performance flash memory while maintaining an affordable price, making them the optimal solution for use in a wide range of enterprise and private laptops and desktop environments. Main characteristics:

• Serial read speed - up to  3500  MB/s, serial write speed - 2900  MB/s;
• Up to 500,000   IOPS (IOPS) for random reading and up to 450,000   IOPS for random writing
• Support for TCG Pyrite and Opal standards and end-to-end data protection for information security for both private and corporate systems
• Support for the NVMe 1.4 feature set and basic System Management Bus (SMBus) management commands
• Support for power-off notification to protect data when forced power-offs occur.

In mid-November 2021, Kioxia sends samples of BG5 series drives to key industry partners and customers.
