2021: Operating System Announcement
In November 2021, Alibaba introduced the new Anolis operating system, which, according to the company, is designed to provide technologies and services in the Alibaba ecosystem. The Internet giant invests about 2 billion yuan in this project (about $313.4 million at the exchange rate at the time of the announcement of the software platform).
From the Alibaba message, it follows that Anolis is a "fully open operating system." At the same time, by November 19, 2021, OS sources have not been disclosed.
The platform is designed for servers. It supports various hardware and processors, including x86 and ARM architectures.
Alibaba said the company made several optimizations specifically aimed at developing cloud applications and programs adapted for the concept of cloud computing. Full performance of typical scenarios using cloud computing technology can be improved by 40%, and failure rates can be reduced by 50%.
Anolis is also compatible with the CentOS ecosystem and supports rapid migration from other operating systems, Alibaba said.
IT ecosystems have traditionally been represented by chips, but cloud computing has fundamentally changed this, "said Zhang Jianfeng, president of the Alibaba Cloud analytical group. - The cloud operating system can standardize the processing power of server chips, special purpose chips and other equipment. Regardless of whether the chip is based on x86, ARM, RISC-V, or hardware accelerator, cloud computing offerings for customers are standardized, of high quality. |
It is noted that Anolis was developed for about 10 years. The operating system was previously used by Alibaba for internal needs.[1]
