History
2021: Attracting $3 million investment
Jet's electric scooter rental service at the end of November 2021 attracted $3 million in investments. Private investors from Russia and Kazakhstan invested in the company. Among them are Eric Iskakov, a serial entrepreneur of Astana, an investor in the construction of residential and commercial facilities.
The startup intends to spend the funds raised on the launch of the service in 5-8 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.
By the end of November 2021, Jet is operating in Kazakhstan, Serbia, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia and Ukraine. According to the company's own data, it leads among the services of renting electric scooters in Almaty, Nur-Sultan, Minsk, Odessa and Yerevan.
The total amount of attracted investments in Jet, taking into account investments in November 2021, is $5 million, of which $1.5 million was invested by the founders of the service at the start of the company.
Eric Iskakov cites data from AMR analysts, according to which in 2020 the global micromobility market amounted to $40.19 billion and will reach $195.42 billion by 2030. For comparison, the Russian micromobility market grew 3.5 times in 2020-2021 and is expected to double in 2022. In other CIS countries, the micromobility market will develop in a similar scenario, but with less competition, he said.
The development of the scooter rental market in Kazakhstan may face regulatory restrictions. Kazakh Interior Minister Yerlan Turgumbayev demanded to limit traffic on scooters on the streets due to frequent accidents with pedestrians. Some of the electric scooters are capable of speeds up to 80 km per hour. Similar restrictions are planned to be imposed by the authorities of some other countries.[1]
