2022: Rostelecom invests 550 million rubles in doubling the capacity of the reference data center in Yekaterinburg

Rostelecom will invest 550 million rubles in doubling the capacity of the reference data center in Yekaterinburg. About this on January 24, 2022, TASS was told by the first deputy general director of Rostelecom-Data Center, the general director of DataSoundYuri Samoilov.

According to him, we are talking about the second stage of the data center, which is planned to be commissioned at the end of 2022.

Rostelecom invests 0.5 billion rubles in doubling the capacity of the reference data center in Yekaterinburg

As Samoilov noted, the site in Yekaterinburg by January 2022 allows you to place up to five similar queues. Their construction will be carried out gradually as the data center commissioned is filled. This is due to the fact that today customer requirements for infrastructure and data centers are constantly changing.

In particular, business requests in the Urals at the moment have become similar to the requirements of Moscow companies. When implementing new projects, we always rely on the needs of customers, so we expand the data center gradually, in queues so that new capacities can meet changing demands, "added Yuri Samoilov.

By the beginning of 2022, the Rostelecom data center in Yekaterinburg accommodates 432 racks with a capacity of 4 MW, including the first project commissioned and under construction. In total, the site in Yekaterinburg can accommodate up to 1.1 thousand racks with 10 MW of energy consumption.

The construction of a data center is being carried out according to the national project "Digital Economy." The anchor partner of Rostelecom was Gazprom Neft, the company's equipment will occupy more than a quarter of the capacity of the data center.

As reported on the Rostelecom website, the data center in Yekaterinburg has:

  • Level III compliance
  • uninterrupted power supply of category 1, independent power supplies duplicated by diesel uninterrupted power supplies;
  • fire extinguishing, smoke early detection and fire warning system;
  • temperature and humidity maintenance system;
  • remote monitoring of engineering and technical safety systems of the facility in round-the-clock mode.[1]

2021: Add Capacity

Rostelecom-Data Center announced on November 30, 2021 the launch of additional capacities in the Yekaterinburg data center.

The design capacity of this data center queue will be 216 racks, with a total capacity of 2 MW. In terms of reliability, the data center (DPC) will comply with Tier III according to the Uptime Institute classification . This level of protection implies the redundancy of all systems critical for operation, in particular, power supply and cooling. Maintenance of such an object is carried out without stopping processes. On November 2021, 216 racks with a total capacity of 2 MW are already operating in the data center.

The facility in Yekaterinburg is a reference data center of regional importance for the Rostelecom-Data Center network of data centers, providing IT facilities to business and government bodies in the Urals and Siberia.

We are seeing a stable demand for regional data centers: the capacities of the first stage of the data center in Yekaterinburg have already found their customers, so we are actively developing this direction. The second stage is designed to help companies in the Urals and Siberia implement digitalization projects, "said Yuri Samoilov, First Deputy General Director of Rostelecom-Data Center.
