2021: Comprehensive modernization of the MRI cabinet

GE Healthcare service specialists took part in the comprehensive modernization of the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) room at the Central Clinical Hospital Russian Railways-Medicine, repurposing it for the admission of pediatric patients. Up to 2,000 children will be able to be examined here every year.

MRI is one of the most common and informative methods of medical diagnosis. In addition, due to the lack of radiation load, it is safe for a wide range of patients, including children. The speed of the procedure and its comfort are also important conditions for the quality of pediatric MR studies.

As a result of a qualitative update, the Signa HDxt2 MR system installed at TsKB Russian Railways-Medicine received a new life, and its diagnostic capabilities became similar to the functionality of the current expert models of GE Healthcare tomographs in the 1.5T class.

In particular, the clinic's specialists were able to carry out targeted imaging of small areas, which is especially significant in pediatric examinations, while preserving clinical images in high resolution. This option helps to identify problematic foci in the body where there is a restriction of diffusion (chaotic fluid movement) in cells, due to which doctors can consider the area under study in detail, determine the localization of the tumor, which means that they can diagnose the disease at the earliest stages and provide timely assistance by selecting the necessary therapy for the patient.

In addition, specialized software allows you to level motion artifacts, which made it possible to conduct MR studies even for very active babies: they no longer need to hold their breath for a long time and lie still. In general, the implemented changes make it possible to increase the speed of the MR procedure by 30%, and for some types of studies this figure reaches more than 50%.
