2021: Application Platform Announcement
On December 14, 2021, Seagate Technology introduced the Exos AP application platform with a 2nd generation AMD EPYC processor-based controller. A scalable and affordable platform for processing and storage, it provides integrated computing and storage in a single package, optimizing rack space utilization, energy efficiency, heat removal, and storage density.
According to the company, the need for solutions for Data Storage continues to grow to an unprecedented level due to the ever-increasing volumes of created. data According to a Rethink Data report prepared by a research company IDC together with Seagate, the volume of corporate data in the next two years will grow by an average of 42.2%. A survey conducted by IDC also showed that enterprises use only 32% of the data available to them, and the remaining 68% is ignored.
Data is often abandoned because storing it requires immediate costs, despite significant potential benefits in the future. The Exos AP platform with AMD EPYC processors helps IT develop a cost-effective data management strategy that intelligently collects, stores, analyzes, and uses data in the future. noted Ken Claffey, senior vice president of Systems at Seagate |
The Exos AP platform with AP-BV-1 offers the right performance for both compute and storage in a single package. With two controllers based on AMD EPYC processors, the system provides controller availability or separation, and the universal controller slot allows you to connect additional EXOS E expansion modules with the SAS interface in the appropriate chassis. The architecture is balanced against existing and future processors and drive capacities.
We are pleased that Seagate has chosen AMD EPYC processors for its Exos AP solution. Combine processor performance and I/O connectivity with Seagate's expertise in big data processing, a solution that provides flexibility and performance to help enterprise customers optimize total cost of ownership. narrated by Rajneesh Gaur, Corporate Vice President and General Manager, Embedded Unit, AMD |
AMD EPYC processors offer a combination of features that help meet the need for storage solutions. AMD EPYC processors in the Exos AP enterprise storage controller can have 8, 12, or 16 poisons for different performance levels. Processors also provide a PCIe 4 leased-line solution that provides network connectivity 200GbE and proper throughput for the SAS controller to get a quick response from hard drives and SSDs. Finally, the Exos AP has 25GbE support on the motherboard, providing basic I/O.
The Exos AP platform with the AP-BV-1 controller will be available in December 2021.
