History

2021: GitLab bought Opstrace

In mid-December 2021, GitLab announced the purchase of Opstrace. The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Opstrace platform can be used to monitor Kubernetes environments, databases, and other information technology assets. The company collaborates with Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Opstrace states that its platform saves administrators time by allowing them to install updates using a single line of code. The built-in troubleshooting engine checks for installation problems and fixes them automatically.

GitLab acquired Opstrace

GitLab plans to integrate Opstrace software into its flagship product, the GitLab DevOps platform. Six Opstrace employees will join GitLab to support integration efforts in the future.

The technology GitLab gains from the acquisition of Opstrace will allow the company to expand its range of features by adding new surveillance capabilities. The company promises a number of benefits for users.

Opstrace technology will allow organizations to reduce the number of incidents, increase the productivity of developers and reduce the average time to resolve problems using a solution with a zero observability configuration, "wrote Opstrace co-founders Sebastien Pal and Mat Appelman on their blog.

GitLab plans to embed Opstrace features both in the version of its "software as a service" platform and in the self-driving version. The latest offering allows enterprises to deploy the GitLab platform in their own cloud or in a local environment. Opstrace software will also continue to be available as a standalone product.[1]
