2021: Robot trolley announcement
In mid-December 2021, the South Korean automaker Hyundai introduced a four-wheeled robot called MobED. The device is designed to carry everything, namely parcels, television screens, trays with drinks, children.
In size and shape, the MobED resembles a trolley with a length of 67 cm, a width of 60 cm, four 12-inch pneumatic tires, and three motors and a steering system are installed on each of the robot wheels, which allows them to move in all directions. Pneumatic tires help to extinguish vibrations and shaking on an uneven road. Thanks to the complex suspension system, the central platform can tilt in any direction, which allows the device to maintain an even position of the weights during lifting or descending along the ramp and adjust the inclination angle of the load.
The wheelbase of the robot can increase to 65 centimeters to confidently move at high speed, and decrease to 45 centimeters to perform complex maneuvers at low speed. The maximum speed of the robot is 30 km/h and the device can move for four hours on one charge. However, how exactly MobED is guided is unknown.
Hyundai calls the device a mobility platform, the company plans to sell MobED to industrial partners, who will then adapt the device to their specific cases for use. The representative of Hyundai noted that the high-tech platform can be both manageable and unmanned. The developers expect the device to become popular as a vehicle for the elderly or people with disabilities, a children's stroller. The cost as of December 17, 2021 remains unknown. With the development of autonomous driving technology, many automakers see new areas for applying the acquired experience.[1]
