Project date: 2021/12

On December 20, 2021, VimpelCom announced the use of Russia's first industrial augmented reality (AR) glasses supporting fifth-generation (5G) mobile communications. The project was implemented by Beeline Business together with Inline Group JSC. The device itself was developed by a Chinese manufacturer, its name is not disclosed.

According to the press service of VimpelCom, the use of an AR headset with a built-in SIM card will allow field employees to stay on and receive digital instructions in a timely manner. The Remote Assistance software platform module provides high-resolution video calls between employees with mobile devices and remote experts in augmented reality. Thus, employees will be able to receive all new tasks remotely, without the need to come to the office for them, as well as share current and valuable information from the site in real time.

AR glasses use the ISAP software platform. As possible areas of application of the platform are called production, warehouse operations, service services, medicine, various exhibition areas, etc.

VimpelCom noted that the download speed of data in the 5G network is almost 20 times higher than in the 4G network, and the upload of data is comparable to the upload of information with smartphone 5G support. At the same time, AR-points transmit data with reliable protection.

Digitalization changes not only individual types of business, but also entire industries. We are confident that AR glasses will soon become the same familiar and convenient working attribute of field employees as a tablet or mobile phone today. Technology cannot be ignored, otherwise the company risks not only lagging behind competitors, but not staying at all, "said German Borodov, director of work with key customers of VimpelCom.[1]
