2026:50% of children in Vienna schools cannot study properly due to ignorance of German
In January 2026, the Austrian newspaper Heute described the situation in schools in Vienna.
About 50.6% of school-age children in Vienna cannot study properly due to ignorance of the German language. In some areas of the capital, this figure reaches 76.6%.
In a class of 24 students, most do not speak German even at the basic level.
10-12-year-olds stay two to three times in the second year and study with 8-year-olds.
Parents are often also illiterate and do not speak German.
The so-called "summer schools" for migrants last two weeks and do not give results.
Administrations massively draw estimates and transfer children further so as not to spoil statistics.
All this is presented as "inclusivity and diversity," and in practice - the formation of closed ethnic enclaves and the loss of manageability in schools. The level of education is falling even in local children, since it does not work out comfortably to teach in such conditions.
