History

2022: Mondelez bought Chipita for $2 billion

In early January 2022, the American corporation Mondelez International completed the acquisition of the Greek Chipita, which specializes in the production of croissants and snacks. The value of the transaction amounted to $2 billion.

Mondelez, owner of brands such as Oreo, Ritz Crackers, Milka and Toblerone will use the capabilities of Chipita's distribution network in Central and Eastern Europe to improve distribution in the region, as well as use the experience of the acquired company in the field of supplier search and production. By the beginning of 2022, Chipita owns 13 production sites and supplies products to the markets of more than 50 countries. The merger of such iconic international brands Mondelez as Cadbury and Milka with Chipita Global brands, such as 7Days croissants, opens up great potential for joint innovations in the global confectionery market, the press release said.

The interim team will be led by Ivo Naydenov, who worked at Mondelez for almost 20 years and has extensive experience in Southeast Europe. Ivo has a rich expertise in business due to his successful career in the food and snack industry. According to representatives of Mondelez, the company will be able to provide more detailed information on long-term plans for the development of the new business segment later after the integration.[1]

In 2021, Chipita opened its own production in the Leningrad Region.
