2022: Pebble Feel Device Announcement
In early January 2022, Panasonic introduced the wearable Pebble Feel thermal control system, designed to work in metaverse. The novelty was developed by Shiftall, a member of the Japanese group.
Pebble Feel is a light (about 250 grams) personal air conditioner in the form of a small rounded pebble (hence the name), created on the basis of the high-performance Pelte element. It can be attached on the back, in the area of the blades with special belts or shirts and simulate the cold or heat in the metaverse.
According to the manufacturer, in combination with an additional expansion of the SteamVR, the player will be able to experience a real change in the ambient temperature in a space like VRChat. With Pebble Feel, you can create a metaverse with a specified temperature sense using existing shaders. In addition, the device can be used in real life - to cool down on a hot day or warm up in cold weather, Panasonic noted.
The gadget is built on the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR1 hardware platform. It uses a 1.3-inch display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, and a 10-bit color representation. The novelty can be connected to a computer or other devices through USB-C, DisplayPort, and USB 2.0 interfaces. As a tracking system, the technology of spatial tracking of 6DoF based on the camera is used.
Pebble Feel can operate without recharging for about 15 hours in cooling mode and 25 hours in heating mode. The minimum and maximum operating temperature of the device is 9 and 42 degrees, respectively.
The start of sales of Pebble Feel personal air conditioner is scheduled for spring 2022. The cost of the product will be about $900.[1]
