2022: Car announcement

On January 12, 2022, Nuro introduced the R3 self-driving car, which will be used to deliver products and other goods to consumers. The car can carry about 24 bags of food at a maximum speed of 72 km/h.

Goods are stored in compartments, each of which has an area of 2.5 square meters. If necessary, compartments can be equipped with modular devices capable of setting temperatures from -30 to + 47C for the delivery of hot and cold food. The main improvement of the Nuro vehicle is a set of functions designed to improve pedestrian safety. The company added an external airbag for pedestrians to reduce the risks arising from possible collisions.

In addition to the main lidar, the unmanned vehicle has four more in the center of the roof, two of which are on top and one each in the front and rear parts of the hull. The difference from past generations is in size. The company did not announce the exact characteristics, but noted that the drone is 20% already an average passenger car. It is worth noting that the width of the previous model was only 1.1 meters, which is much less than the average car.

Our next generation vehicle is designed for safe operation in the same conditions as all cars. This allows us to serve a wide range of geographical regions where various weather conditions are observed throughout the year. In the long term, we intend to deploy tens of thousands of delivery vehicles and provide delivery services for millions of consumers, said Nuro co-founder Jiajun Zhu.

The company plans to produce its new autonomous delivery vehicle at a manufacturing facility under construction in Nevada, a state in the western United States. One way to commercialize its technology, Nuro plans to partner with retailers to provide autonomous delivery services to its customers. The company also establishes partnerships in the logistics market.[1]
