History
2025: Creation of a digital twin of the Samara region to manage it
Korolev Samara University has developed a comprehensive system for digital modeling of the region based on geo-information technologies and artificial intelligence algorithms for strategic management of territorial development. The innovative platform includes several specialized services that use Earth remote sensing data and big data processing technologies to analyze and predict the development of territories. The completion of the development of digital solutions for building a "digital twin" of the region was reported on August 28, 2025.
According to Kommersant, the created system combines software complexes for structuring and analyzing space information using machine learning technologies. The platform is designed for use in urban studies, environmental management, agriculture, transport and emergency monitoring.
The key component of the development was the "robot cartograph" service, which creates digital profiles of real estate objects based on space and aerial photographs. The software forms multi-layered address plans of territories, determines the purpose of buildings, calculates the number of residents and estimates the transport accessibility of locations.
The system has already been introduced into the practice of spatial planning of Samara and was used to adjust the "Strategy for Socio-Economic Development for the Period up to 2025." The recommendations of the service help to accurately plan the development of territories, taking into account the density of the population and the provision of infrastructure.
On the basis of the cartographic module, the "land inspector" service was created, which automatically detects violations of land legislation by comparing the data of the Unified State Register of Real Estate with space images. The system detects illegal construction of commercial facilities on individual housing construction sites and other inconsistencies with their intended purpose.[1]
2019: Cooperation with Rostelecom-Solar
On January 30, 2019, Rostelecom-Solar, a national provider of technologies and services for protecting information assets, monitoring and managing information security, announced that it had entered into a strategic partnership agreement with the Samara National Research University named after Academician S.P. Korolev. Cooperation is aimed at the personnel development of the Samara region in the field of cybersecurity.
The key objectives of the partnership are to modernize and improve the information security curriculum. Rostelecom-Solar experts, together with teachers from Samara University, will develop a number of specialized special programs and special courses with a focus on practical methods of protection against cyber threats.
| The participation of enterprises of the real sector of the economy in the university educational process is important for us, it allows us to move the bridge from the fundamental and general technical training of students to the acquisition of specific professional competencies in demand by the rapidly growing market. We agreed to involve Rostelecom-Solar employees in reading a number of special disciplines, leading laboratory, course and thesis papers, and together solve current scientific and technical problems of information protection. |
In parallel, the Solar JSOC Cyber Attack Monitoring and Response Center is launching an internship program for university students with the possibility of further employment in the company, including in the Samara division of Solar JSOC. Students will be able to adopt the best practices from analysts of the Russian monitoring center, determine their specialization and gain practical experience, which will further contribute to their professional development and career growth. At the stands repeating the real infrastructures of Russian companies, 3-5 year students will learn to identify, analyze and investigate information security incidents, configure security tools, deepening their knowledge and skills in the field of information security.
Rostelecom-Solar and Samara University are also planning joint events in the region on the topic of information security.
| We are actively developing the topic of information security in the regions of Russia, first of all, in the supporting cities of the Russian Federation - Nizhny Novgorod, Khabarovsk, Samara. This implies the creation of a personnel reserve, the development of a professional community, and increasing the cyber literacy of the population. |
