2022: Use of robots for recycling in the suburbs

At the end of January 2022, robots-sorters for recycling waste were first introduced in the Moscow Region. We are talking about the development of the RT-Invest company (part of the Rostec state corporation), which began to be used in the Sergiev Posad district.

Robots are installed on the preliminary sorting section. They use machine vision technology to determine the morphology of waste and choose only "useful" fractions. The first mechanism operates on the principle of an optical separator. With a stream of compressed air, he shoots off colored plastic bottles. The second is equipped with special "suckers" and is focused on capturing paper and cardboard.

By January 25, 2022, the technology is being tested and debugged, but, as noted in RT-Investment, already in a month with their help it was already possible to increase to 98% the selection of fractions that are most suitable for secondary use. After testing, similar robots will appear on all four complexes of the company.

RT-Invest specialists adjust the settings, gradually expanding the list of selected fractions. In addition, such parameters as air pressure, the height of the mechanisms relative to the conveyor belt, and the speed of the waste flow are changed. All this improves the quality of sorting. Artificial intelligence makes almost no mistakes, the company said.

It is also noted that more than 70% of the equipment of the sorting workshop of the Sever complex was produced and installed under the import substitution program - these are the majority of conveyor systems, platforms, rotary separators and a number of other equipment. Robots are also produced in Russia. Equipment testing takes place as part of the RT-Invest business accelerator program. The financial component of the project by January 25, 2022 is not disclosed.^[1]
