2021: Building a System
In Russia, a satellite system has been developed to prevent river spills and technical liquids. It was called "Hound-Ecologist," the press service of Roscosmos reported in January 2022.
A new solution was developed by Gonets Satellite System JSC (part of Roscosmos) together with Cascade NPP JSC. The system is designed to monitor the level of liquid in both closed and open tanks. In addition, it can be used to track the state of natural bodies of water, such as rivers and lakes, informing about the water level in them.
The main components of Ecologist are a radio wave level meter and a communication terminal. Therefore, the system can monitor the level of liquid in the tanks in almost real time. Through satellite communication channels, information is transmitted to a single center.
Moreover, devices allow you to remotely receive information from monitoring facilities in any, even the most remote areas. Due to the orbital construction of the Gonets system, which 100% covers the Earth with communication services, data transfer is possible from regions with insufficient or completely absent coverage by ground-based communication systems,
When the liquid level approaches the critical mark, it is possible to take preventive measures and avoid spillage. As stated in Roskosmos, thanks to the development, it is possible to successfully prevent floods or spills of hazardous liquids resulting from natural wear and tear of equipment and illegal actions.
According to Pavel Cherenkov, general director of Gonets Satellite System JSC, Roscosmos state corporation enterprises are actively participating in the socio-economic life of the country, introducing space technologies in various areas of activity.[1]
