2022: Perinatal center nurses start hunger strike due to difficult working conditions

In early February 2022, nurses at the perinatal center in Kolomna began a hunger strike due to difficult working conditions. In this regard, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation began to conduct an internal audit, as a result of which the department will take appropriate measures and decisions.

Employees of the perinatal center wrote an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, in which they reported a shortage of nurses due to cuts, complained about the salary that had changed less and unbearable working conditions. In their appeal, the nurses said that for a 12-hour working day they have only 15 minutes of break, they perform the duties of both nurses and nurses, and salaries did not increase, but even fell.

On February 1, 2022, nurse Natalya Trukhina began a hunger strike. In total, five of her colleagues plan to take part in the "Italian strike." Also, as health workers told local media, their salaries at such a load significantly decreased - from 40 thousand to 30 thousand rubles.

Trukhina, in a conversation with RBC, confirmed that the main requirement remains the expansion of the staff in order to reduce the burden on health workers. According to her, the problems began after cuts that took place in two waves, in 2019 and in 2021. At the same time, according to Trukhina, their salaries did not increase. She herself, according to her, the salary even decreased - from 40-42 to 30-32 thousand rubles.

On her personal page Vkontakte"," Natalya Trukhina began to keep a hunger strike diary. Natalia spoke not only about the "overseers" who pursued her all day, but also about sympathetic colleagues.

Also, nurses are asking to hold the head physician of the perinatal center Tatyana Shavrak accountable for "systematically ignoring the requests for documents and requirements to eliminate violations of labor laws," which were repeatedly sent by the Action trade union committee, and for "other violations of the law."[1]
