2022: Annex Release
In early February 2022, Dawn Health released an app to treat insomnia without drugs. The $60-a-month service offers evidence-based therapy based on work on cognitive behavioral therapy from Andreas Meistad, integrated with a sleep tracker.
Dawn Health was founded in mid-2020 by previously working product engineer at Intercom and Microsoft Rahul Shivkumar, cognitive behavioral therapist Andreas Meistad and previously working software engineer at Yahoo Varun Krishnamurti. The team turned insomnia treatment into a Dawn Health app, which they call the technological standard of care for insomnia.
Users of the mobile app work in tandem with a sleep tracker trained by Dawn Health therapists and have access to the chat function and individual daily work plans. As of February 2022, the company served more than 100 patients, including some representatives of the IT industry, such as OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Twitch co-founder Kevin Lin and Galaxy Digital co-founder Sam Englebardt.
The first data show that 80% of people who went through the program reached such a level of insomnia that they no longer resort to the help of drugs, alcohol or marijuana! Most of the health care costs can be reduced to poor sleep... In the long run, this will be of real benefit, especially if we can prevent Alzheimer's disease and other disorders suggested by data from companies such as Oura. If we can fix this earlier in life or prevent sleep problems altogether, it will bring significant savings in funds and health, said Dawn Health co-founder Rahula Shivkumar. |
According to estimates by the American Sleep Association, 70% of Americans suffer from some kind of sleep disorder in the workplace, which means $2.2 thousand in productivity loss for the average worker per year and a total of $63.2 billion in productivity loss per year.[1][2]
