On February 21, 2022, the Ministry of Transport and Road Facilities of the Republic of Bashkortostan announced the creation of an intelligent transport system (ITS) in Ufa. Investments in the project are estimated at 1.1 billion rubles. More than 850 million rubles from this amount will come from the federal budget.
According to the press service of the ministry, citing the head of the Transport Directorate of the Republic, Mansaf Nizakaev, at the first stage of the program, traffic lights will be updated - 134 smart devices and special software will be installed. In addition, the project includes the installation of placards, photo and video recording cameras, smart stops, environmental weather stations and the digitization of road maps.
ITS will automate traffic management in Ufa and optimize traffic flows using a single digital platform. The system consists of many sensors, smart traffic cameras and traffic lights, information from which is collected in a single control unit. ITS automatically determines traffic density, congestion and accidents. If necessary, the system either adjusts traffic in a particular area automatically to unload streets and intersections, or transmits information to specialists and city services. As a result, road network capacity and traffic safety are improved. In addition, the system monitors the state of the environment and weather.
Yuri Fedyukin, deputy head of the Federal State Institution "Roads of Russia," drew attention to the fact that in accordance with the methodology of the Ministry of Transport of Russia, criteria for classifying ITS urban agglomeration by maturity were established. The institution will provide the republic with methodological assistance in updating the package of documents.[1]
