2022: Creating a pistol
In early March 2022, the Baltic State Technical University "Voenmech" named after D.F. Ustinov announced the creation of a special pistol for astronauts. The product can be used as a weapon or a signal means if the astronaut lands accidentally or in a remote area. The fact is that the landing of spacecraft may not occur at the planned points. Once one on one with dangers, the astronaut should be able to independently protect himself from them.
As a researcher at Voenmekha and one of the developers of the pistol, Ulyana Voiko, told TASS, in addition to the main functions of a weapon that can save a life in a collision with wild animals, the pistol from combat is also able to turn into a signal, and it is able to give both a smoke signal and laser (effectively at night, as well as spread a fire. This was made possible due to the main feature of the development - the technology of replaceable units.
In each block, several ammunition of different purposes are pressed. Even in one block there may be several types of ammunition, a certain collection. You can choose the ammunition that will be needed depending on the circumstances, "explained Voiko. |
An interesting point she called the fact that the gun is powered by a battery - it powers built-in electronics, including a chip installed in the unit, which helps determine which ammunition will fire at the moment. It is noted that the novelty is equipped with a convenient system for changing sights, and the electronic ammunition control system allows you to accurately calculate the remaining ammunition.
The plans of the developers include certification of a new product for use by tourists, fishermen, hunters, environmentalists and geologists.[1]
