2022: Service Launch

On March 15, 2022, MegaFon announced an increase in the speed of mobile Internet to a level that almost corresponds to 5G networks. To do this, the carrier proposed the Pre-5G option. It is included in the three maximum filling tariff plans: "Maximum," VIP and "Premium." Owners of other tariffs will be able to connect an option for 399 rubles per month.

According to the company's website, the average download speed in the 4G/LTE network increases due to an intelligent network resource configuration program up to 30%. At the same time, all subscribers of the network are provided with the basic quality of the mobile Internet - an average download speed of at least 1 Mbps under the following conditions:

  • in line of sight at least 300 meters there is a 4G/LTE base station;
  • the device is certified for receiving and transmitting data in 4G/LTE networks and is quite productive;
  • the subscriber is not in the place of mass accumulation of people;
  • weather and landscape do not cause additional interference or interfere with the radio signal;
  • speed is measured by the official Speedtest application.

When the LTE connection appeared, the technologies used in it could be used to improve the quality of the previous 3G standard, "said Dmitry Tochilin, head of the architecture of the MegFon radio and reference network. - The same applies to the 5G standard. So far, it has not yet been massively used in Russia, but the technologies tested on this standard make it possible to improve the quality of communication and traffic management in the LTE standard.

According to MegFon's own data, the average download speed in MegaFon's network is more than 50% higher than the nearest competitor - 32.92 Mbps versus 21.7 Mbps. The Pre-5G service is available in all Russian regions in which the operator's network operates without exception.[1]
