2022: Creating a Standard

In mid-March 2022, Chinese Internet giants Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance teamed up to create a new standard for streaming video, which, according to developers, will make viewing videos much more comfortable for users. We are talking about the VUltra-low Latency Live Broadcast Protocol Signaling Standard project, the developed standard is based on the WebRTC protocol.

According to The Register, in China, the quick launch of streaming video is considered extremely important, since Internet companies are increasingly turning to commercials in strips to promote their products. It is not known whether the Chinese standard for streaming video will subsequently be adopted in the United States and in the European Union. Alibaba, Tencent and ByteDance promised that their standard would be available to everyone.

The project participants have not yet agreed with each other whether the released standard will be shared as open source software or as a project for adoption by standardization organizations.

Chinese Internet giants want to make the video show start as quickly as possible, and the delay itself should be up to 1 second or even reduce it to 0.5 seconds. As the developers calculated, with the current realities before the actual start of broadcasting, users have to wait from 3 to 6 seconds at the beginning of 2022, and end users do not like it. Project participants strive to approve some modified methods of data transfer between the server and the client in the updated technological standard of video streaming.

By stream, analysts mean broadcasting actions in life, on a computer or game console in real time. This definition includes live broadcasts of concerts, master classes, everyday life, travel, computer games, etc.[1]
