2019-2021

In early March 2022, Nurlan Tleubaev was found guilty by the court of embezzlement and forgery of documents and sentenced to nine years in prison. He was convicted along with a group of entrepreneurs and former banker Zhomart Ertaev in the case of embezzlement from Bank RBK, Eurasian Bank and Qazaq Banki. Tleubaev was arrested at the end of 2019.

2022: Arrest on charges of financial fraud

On March 31, 2022, it became known about the completion of an investigation against former top managers of Kazakhstan's Delta Bank, which was conducted by the country's Financial Monitoring Agency (AFM) in connection with suspicions of withdrawing a large amount of money from a credit institution.

According to TASS, citing a statement by AFM, it was established that in 2012-2017. former chairman of the board of Delta Bank Nurlan Tleubaev withdrew the bank's funds by issuing deliberately irretrievable loans.

During the investigation, arrests were imposed on the property of the suspects (all their names are not disclosed) and their close relatives worth more than 48 billion tenge: five sugar factories, more than 20 land plots, 70 real estate objects and 40 vehicles. Including seized assets located in the United Arab Emirates, the Russian Federation, the Latvian and Czech Republics, said AFM investigator Saltanat Kusherbaeva.

According to her, the damage from criminal activity amounted to more than 200 billion tenge, $200 million and 4 million euros. In total, this is more than $630 million. By the end of March 2022, the criminal case was sent to court, the defendants in the case are in custody, the AFM said.

Nurlan Tleubaev owned liquidated Kazinvestbank and Delta Bank, large grain companies, was one of the richest businessmen in Kazakhstan and one of the most influential entrepreneurs in the republic according to Forbes magazine.[1]
