Launch Platform

At the end of March 2022, startup Weglot announced a platform for translating websites. The technology helps to add multiple languages to a custom site without any special settings and without the need to switch to another site content management system. For the commercial development of its product, the company attracted $50 million in investments.

Site translation plugins for WordPress and Shopify have existed since 2012, but Weglot is developing a versatile product that will work for all kinds of websites. On servers, Weglot automatically detects and retrieves site content. Weglot clients can use automatic translation to get started with new languages.

A platform for quick translation of sites into hundreds of languages has been released

The user can add it to their existing site using the plugin, which is how Weglot works with WordPress, Shopify, Wix and WooCommerce. If the user has a small company and does not have a special web developer, then the owner of the resource will be able to install Weglot without writing a line of code. Another way is that you can add multiple Javascript strings to the <head>site tag<head>. Weglot uses this approach for Webflow, Squarespace, and BigCommerce. Users also need to configure DNS records to create subdomains or subdirectories for new languages.

Weglot also offers a dashboard in the form of a platform so that users can immerse themselves in their content and create better translations. Owners can give access to professional translators and manage translations from this interface. When a visitor downloads a custom site, it will be downloaded in the language selected by the client by default. The owner of the resource will be able to add a language switch in the corner of his site if he wants to offer several options for his visitors. Although translations are stored on Weglot servers, the company creates special subdirectories or subdomains for each language. Thus, Google and other search engines can index each language version of your site. Metadata and keywords can also be translated using.

The startup charges a monthly subscription fee depending on the number of languages and words that users need. Weglot reached an annual turnover of $11 million. The company has not attracted external capital since the sowing round in 2017.[1]
