2022: Pile Behavior Matmel Development
The development of scientists at Perm Polytechnic will prevent the destruction of buildings in the cold. This was announced by the University on April 4, 2022.
At low temperatures, wet soil under buildings freezes and increases in volume. This leads to uneven lifting of foundations and destruction of building structures. Most often, such problems are solved by increasing the length of piles or other measures, which involves additional costs. Scientists at Perm Polytechnic have developed mathematical models that made it possible to calculate the optimal shape of piles. It reduces the effect of freezing soil on buildings without increasing the length of the pile.
The increase in the volume of wet soil during freezing is called frosty bundling. The fight against this phenomenon leads to increased costs for the design, construction and operation of buildings. We proposed to reduce its negative impact by changing the configuration of the pile without increasing its length. A different form made it possible to change the direction of frost heaving forces in such a way that they have a positive effect by counteracting the rise of piles, "says one of the developers, associate professor of the Department of Construction Engineering and Materials Science of Perm Polytechnic, candidate of technical sciences Olga Tretyakova. |
Scientists used the configuration of a pile with an upper reverse cone and developed a mathematical model of its interaction with freezing soil. Matmodel will not only predict the behavior of the pile, but also control the name. Development will help calculate the optimal parameters of the pile and the angle of inclination of its surface. This is necessary to ensure the balance of the pile in the ground and the integrity of the structures of the buildings.
The increased bearing capacity of the pile of a new shape has previously been confirmed, but the developers from Perm Polytechnic first presented a method for calculating its optimal shape. To do this, they developed an analytical model. Based on it, the developers created an automated module that allows you to obtain 3D models and flat images for working drawings. At the beginning of April 2022, researchers are studying other forms of piles and developing an improved software complex.
The results of our study will reduce the cost of structures. They can be used in the design of buildings in the northern regions of Russia or in other countries where the phenomena of seasonal freezing and frost heaving are relevant. The development will be promising for use in the construction of civil and industrial buildings, transport tunnels and bridge supports, the scientist explains. |
