In the period from August to December 2021, Yerkozha Akylbek served as Deputy Director General for Financial Planning, Control and Internal Audit of USM, and from July 2020 to August 2021 - the post of Director for Internal Audit and Strategic Projects.

2022: Appointment of USM CEOs

On April 7, 2022, Yerkozha Akylbek was appointed general director of the USM holding owned by Alisher Usmanov. He replaced Ivan Streshinsky, who will continue to work on the board of directors of USM, as well as on the boards of directors of Metalloinvest, MegaFon and other companies in the group, the statement said.

The reasons for the change of the head of USM are not reported. Akylbek is also a member of the boards of directors of USM, MegaFon, Metalloinvest and Udokanskaya Copper, Akkermann Cement and the Center for the Development of Advanced Technologies (CRPT).

Alisher Usmanov fell under EU sanctions on February 28, 2022. He is the founder and principal shareholder of USM Holdings (49%), which owns Metalloinvest and MegaFon. In the justification of the sanctions, the European officials indicated that Usmanov has especially close ties with President Vladimir Putin and is "one of his favorites." He also actively supports the policy of "destabilization of Ukraine." Metalloinvest after that said that they did not expect changes in the work of the company, since Usmanov owns less than 50% of USM.

By the beginning of 2022, Ivan Streshinsky is the first top manager in Russia to become a dollar billionaire with a fortune of $1.3 billion, Forbes reported. Alisher Usmanov transferred 2% of the holding's shares to Streshinsky, and his share rose to 5%.[1]
