2022: Allowing employees to be paid by cryptocurrency

In April 2022, it became known about the decision of the Yekaterinburg IT company Zavod IT to pay salaries in cryptocurrency. Employees working both in Russia and abroad will be able to receive it, said the founder of the company, Alexander Protsyuk.

The management argued this, in particular the instability of the ruble exchange rate. Employees are given bitcoin, ether, XRP and USDT to choose from.

We made an offer to employees to pay salaries in cryptocurrency, which they can use or not... We do not transfer the entire salary to cryptocurrency, leaving most of it in fiat (ordinary money), but the situation may change when the relevant bills are developed, Protsyuk told Interfax.

Cryptocurrency is not the only means of calculating a company with its employees. If desired, employees of Zavod IT startups can continue to receive salaries in fiat currency.

After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Zavod IT had problems paying for the services of employees abroad due to sanctions imposed on Russian banks. As a result, the head decided to conclude an agreement with partners who have their own crypto exchanger for the provision of services for the implementation of international and internal payments to employees.

By April 2022, the company decided that it would pay a small part of the salary in cryptocurrency, and transfer the rest with available funds in fiat. The company predicts that payment problems could soon become more acute. Moreover, it is not clear how she herself receives funding from foreign companies.

However, how long such freedom of choice will last remains unknown. According to company representatives, in April 2022, more than half of the state (60%) announced their readiness to abandon rubles in favor of tokens. The number of staff of "Zavod IT startups" at the time of publication of the material, according to "Kontur. Focus," was four people. The company did not explain exactly how it conducts the necessary deductions for them and transfers data on such payments to the Federal Tax Service (FTS).

At the beginning of April 2022, cryptocurrency, unlike a number of foreign countries, was not recognized as a full-fledged analogue of the national currency. Employees of the company, as a result, have to cash out tokens. But the representative of "Zavod IT startups" noted that all employees "will easily figure out how to transfer money to the right currency."

The current legislation in Russia does not yet prohibit operations with cryptocurrency. For April 2022, they are regulated by the law on digital financial assets, which states that tokens cannot be used as a means of payment for goods and services.

But so far there is a possibility of entering to the country into a complete ban on everything related to virtual money. This is achieved, Central Bank although various ministries and the President personally have already opposed him. Russia Vladimir Putin

A complete lock can be replaced by the obligation to pay taxes on all transactions before cryptocurrency. You will also have to forget about anonymity, and Russian banks will participate in all transactions as intermediaries. These rules were prepared by the Russian authorities. The corresponding bill was submitted to the State Duma in April 2022.

In total, the Ural company employs 13 people, including remote workers (by April 2022).[1]
