"Лента.ру" tested the AI solution for editors

2022: Testing the solution to optimize the work of revisions when preparing text materials

The editors of the online publication "Лента.ру" on April 15, 2022 announced that they had tested the AI solution, which optimizes the work of the editors when preparing text materials. The AI editor was created by the Office of Research and Innovation of Sberbank with the participation of Sber AI and Ленты.ру.

The editor consists of three tools that can facilitate some routine tasks, allowing editors to more quickly and qualitatively work out the news agenda:

• The first helps identify potentially interesting topics for the audience, increasing the speed of news production and publication;
• The second adapts texts for a large number of readers - finds words and sentences difficult to perceive, offering synonyms and alternative formulations;
• the third analyzes the scope and speed of distribution of published materials and gives an assessment of the efficiency of the editorial office.

Together with Sber's teams, we managed to create a progressive tool that helps to improve the quality and efficiency of published information, as well as improve its perception by the audience. The AI editor has great capabilities in post-analytics: thanks to this, we can understand the relevance of the news and the virality of the headlines. As of April 2022, we are using the product in the editorial office, gradually expanding the list of Ленты.ру employees who have access to it. In the near future, we plan to apply it on the resources of all federal publications of Rambler & Co, said Vladimir Todorov, editor-in-chief of Ленты.ру, director of media development at RAMBLER & Co.

The introduction and use of artificial intelligence-based solutions is one of the main trends in the development of modern journalism. In turn, Sber is working on the creation of AI technologies that help a person, complementing and expanding his capabilities. Many years of experience with AI and a special base of our own developments allowed us to create a functional model of AI-editor in the shortest possible time. Our solution is not superior to a human editor, but can free him from routine tasks, noted Albert Efimov, vice president, director of the Office of Research and Innovation of Sberbank.
