LTE Base Station Field Test Completed

Field tests of the first Russian LTE base station operating in the 2.3-2.4 GHz band have been completed. On September 29, 2022, TAdviser was reported by NII Radio. The manufacturers of the station are the institute itself and the Laboratory of Infocommunication Networks (LIS).

The tests were carried out on a real segment of the network with the core of Rostelecom, since the main task of this base station is to equip remote and small settlements (from 100 to 500 residents) with communication as part of a program to eliminate digital inequality in Russia. Rostelecom is the operator of the program, and just for these purposes it was allocated a range of 2.3-2.4 GHz.

In the course of research, which took place from September 5 to 23, NII Radio and LIS assessed the possibility of a base station working together with the core of the Rostelecom network, and also checked the technical and functional characteristics of the base station.

"We tested VoLTE voice calls - the voice connection through the IMS subsystem is successful, the quality of the transmitted speech is excellent. On the subscriber unit, it was possible to achieve a speed of 40 Mbps with a channel width of 10 MHz. This is more than enough even for transferring heavy files and watching videos, "said Evgeny Devyatkin, director of the research center for advanced wireless communication technologies at NII Radio.

The possibility of transmitting data during a voice call and, conversely, conducting a voice call during data transmission was also checked. Both were successful, concluded Evgeny Devyatkin. In addition, the station supports some 4G modulations on the radio interface.

According to Devyatkin, Rostelecom's requirements remain, which, as of September 2022, have not yet been implemented, but will be implemented on the horizon from six months to two years.

"For the new station, that's fine. In general, according to the results of the tests, the main characteristics of the base station correspond to international equipment, "he said.

The station is installed at the NII Radio training ground situated near Moscow To Balashikha in and is already in trial operation. According to manufacturers, the LTE-RUS-2300M corresponds to release 9 of 3GPP and has status. telecommunication equipment of Russian origin

Russian LTE base station tested

On April 15, 2022, the Research Institute of Radio announced that it had tested a Russian LTE base station operating in the 2.3-2.4 GHz band. The manufacturers of the station are the institute itself and the Laboratory of Infocommunication Networks (LIS).

The base station was created to equip socially significant objects with communication within the framework of the program to eliminate digital inequality in Russia, so the selected range is used - Rostelecom, the project operator, works in it. In January 2022, the station was assigned the status of telecommunication equipment of Russian origin.

Previously, the operation of the base station was tested in laboratory conditions.

"We, together with the LIS, checked how the LTE-RUS-2300M system (LIS development) meets 3GPP standards, whether it supports base station functions - whether there is interface support, the ability to make calls and connect to the Internet through different devices. Tests have shown that the characteristics of the base station correspond to equipment of international level, "

shared Oleg Ivanov, CEO of Radio Research Institute

"During testing, VoLTE voice calls, ViLTE video calls, data transfer with support for various QoS profiles, handovers using S1 and X2 interfaces were performed. The results obtained proved the operability of the base station and its compliance with standards, "

told Vladimir Aksenov, Technical Director of LIS

At the end of March, the work of the base station was demonstrated to representatives of Rostelecom and Tele2. It was possible to achieve a speed of 90 Mbps with low delays, to demonstrate the handover mode of the equipment, that is, the handover of the subscriber (without terminating the data session) from one base station to another.

"Rostelecom and Tele 2 provided us with a list of equipment requirements - it is quite extensive, we checked our station for compliance with it - it meets most of the mandatory requirements. We are considering what improvements may be required, and we will negotiate supply, "

told Oleg Ivanov, General Director of the Research Institute of Radio

The next stage is field tests, which will be held at the training ground of the Research Institute of Radio in the city. To Balashikha This time the station will be checked on the segment of the real network (operator preliminary Tele2 is expected). It is planned to cover the zone 3-4 km.
