2022: Platform Entry

On April 19, 2022, LG CNS announced that it had joined the South Korean government's Smart Farming Project, aimed at creating an artificial intelligence-based platform that offers final recommendations for more efficient and high-yielding agriculture.

The project started by the Ministry rural hozyaystvayuzhny Korea and local authorities of the province the Southern Cholla is directed to creation by 2023 of "clever" agricultural grounds in the open territory of 543 thousand sq.m. (54.3 hectares) in the rural city of Nadzhu located approximately in 355 km south of Seoul.

LG has released a platform for smart farming. That she can

Until now, "smart farming" has been distributed mainly due to such objects as glass and polyethylene greenhouses. Unlike past projects of smart "farms, the new project is aimed at creating farms in an open area. Open area in agriculture refers to rice fields and fields that are not equipped with structures. According to the National Statistics Office, about 95% of agricultural land is for open-air cultivation.

LG CNS is developing an intelligent smart farm platform that will combine and manage all agricultural processes. The Smart Farm Platform collects and analyzes various data needed for agriculture, such as plant growth, soil, weather, temperature, humidity, and pest exposure, using artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and drones, and provides optimal agricultural guidance.

For example, when growing potatoes, data on the soil and growth of potatoes are analyzed to determine the appropriate amount and timing of fertilizer supply. Depending on the soil moisture level and the weather schedule, the system also determines the optimal watering schedule. Depending on the size of the field, many IoT sensors and equipment are installed in rice fields and beds to monitor the entire process of crop growth from planting to harvesting and collecting various environmental data.

The platform protects crops with a digital scarecrow - it is a device for repelling harmful birds and animals, equipped with an image sensor with artificial intelligence, radar, speaker and laser. A digital scarecrow detects the movement of an object using radar and determines the presence of pests using an image sensor with artificial intelligence. After that, it protects crops by firing a laser or sending a frequency using a speaker that scares off animals.

LG CNS also integrated agricultural water management from water sources to irrigation and drainage using intelligent water management solutions. A water level sensor installed in rice fields and reservoirs checks the amount of water in real time, and an automatic irrigation system automatically supplies agricultural water to prepare for drought.

The company plans to lay the foundation for digital precision agriculture by standardizing the subjects, units and methods of agricultural data collection under this project. So far, information related to agriculture has been difficult to apply because the standards were not clear and did not reflect variables affecting plant growth, such as weather and soil.[1]
