2022: Market Entry
On April 19, 2022, Audi introduced a fully autonomous Urbansphere car. It does not have a steering wheel, pedals and displays. Urbansphere was designed and developed in collaboration between Audi creative studios in Beijing and the German headquarters in Ingolstadt. Potential local clients took part in the development process, who expressed their wishes and shared their experience.
The model is designed primarily for movement in Chinese megacities. The car has impressive dimensions, expressed in a spacious interior, which provides a rational combination of physical and digital space. The automaker describes Urbansphere as the largest model in the sphere family and among all Audi cars for April 2022.
Urbansphere design has many unusual solutions. The dimensions of the car are: 5.51 m in length, 2.01 m in width and 1.78 m in height. However, instead of filling this vast space with many seats and gadgets, designers used a 3,400 mm wheelbase to offer a large, open, furniture-free interior space with minimal visual distractions.
The front and rear doors open in opposite directions. The cabin has only 4 seats, the seats are deployed in the opposite sides of the back of which reclines 60 degrees, and the leg supports are completely laid out, forming a bed. Each seat has a set of speakers in the head restraint area, and individual monitors are built into the backs of the front seats. A red light carpet is projected onto the surface of the ground next to the car when the doors are opened.
The power of the car is provided by an electric drive, two engines of which are capable of delivering 295 kW (401 hp) and torque of 690 Nm. The car is equipped with constant quattro all-wheel drive, and on one battery charge the car is capable of driving about 466 km.[1]
