Transesophageal echocardiography (PSExoKG)

Transesophageal echocardiography (PPExoKG) is an ultrasound diagnosis of animal heart diseases. Unlike the standard cardiac ultrasound (echocardiography) performed through the chest wall, in HPExoKG, a sensor is introduced into the esophagus of the animal, which allows you to obtain a higher image quality and the ability to assess the condition of the heart in several projections. ChPEhoKG allows you to study hard-to-reach places in the chambers and vessels of the heart, which is impossible with conventional transthoracic EhoKG.

The ChPExoKG study helps to diagnose with increased accuracy a number of cardiac pathologies in animals, including congenital malformations such as pulmonary artery stenosis, aortic stenosis, open arterial duct, mitral valve dysplasia, and defects in the interventricular and interpersonal septum. Thanks to accurate diagnosis, doctors can draw up a more effective plan for treating pets.

"Many pets are prone to cardiovascular disease. In particular, dogs of artificially bred breeds often have heart defects. Today, innovative technologies, such as transesophageal echocardiography, allow accurate preoperative and intraoperative diagnosis of animals at the highest level, "said Leonid Krasheninnikov, cardiologist at the EVC European Veterinary Center.

By reviewing the anatomical structures and functions of the heart in real time, the doctor receives complete clinical information. The sensor makes it possible to perform transesophageal visualization with obtaining data in a single cardiac contraction with high frame rate of volumetric visualization.

In 2022, this procedure is still extremely rare in Russian veterinary clinics due to the high cost of equipment, the complexity of the study and the lack of professional knowledge and skills in working with such equipment by veterinary cardiologists.
